Since 1941, our diverse backgrounds and extensive industry expertise positions us to provide innovative extrusion solutions to customers across the globe.

Our Founding

Akron Tool & Die Co. (ATD) was founded in 1941 by Robert Campbell Magee, George Forester, and Fred Jones. During this time, Akron, OH was known as ‘The Rubber Capital of the World’ and was home to many well-known companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Firestone. A few machine shops were already established in the Akron, OH area, making it an ideal location to conduct business to supply OEM components to the growing plastics industry.

During the mid-60’s, ATD business took off. ATD became the main supplier for NRM’s extrusion equipment, which included adapters, extrusion dies, feed pipes, and related components for polymer processing machines. The location underwent three expansions during the early 70’s, late 70’s, and 80’s. Once completed, the manufacturing facility boasted 15,000 square feet of space to support capital investments in machinery, including new equipment and technology to keep up with demand. Robert Magee purchased ATD in 1965 from the partners.

Robert Magee, Fred Jones, and George Foerstner established Akron Tool & Die Co. in Akron, Ohio, in 1941 to provide precision machinery components to the rubber industry.

Positioned for Growth

In the early 1990’s, Mike Magee (current owner), a third-generation family member, was asked to join ATD. Under Mike’s ownership, a proprietary line of extrusion dies was developed in response to the evolving thermoplastic industry. ATD continued to develop die technologies, designs and geometries (strip, pelletizing, blown film, plank, and sheet) to utilize for specialty food items and rubber products in the thermoplastics industry. In addition to job shop work and being a premier OEM supplier, Mike wanted to expand ATD’s equipment offerings to include extruders in the product portfolio.

In 1999, ATD purchased the assets of Akron Extruders and both companies formed a new company name doing business as Diamond America Corporation. This move positioned the companies to keep up with the growth and deliver value for customers. In addition to manufacturing precision machining components, extrusion dies, and supplying OEM parts, Diamond America began to market single-screw plastics extruders.

Diamond America Today

In 2007, Diamond America’s product line expanded to include ambient feed extruders for all types of temperature sensitive applications. The business continued to diversify to include equipment design, remanufacturing, and laboratory services.

The company merged operations to do business under one name: Diamond America. In 2024, Diamond America relocated to a new 30,000+ manufacturing facility located in Mogadore, OH.
